KATHMANDU: National Information Commission has directed the Finance Ministry to reveal the names of VAT evaders.

Giving its final verdict to the complaint lodged by Freedom Forum, the commission said that Income Tax Act and VAT Act are attracted in the normal condition only. "But the issue is not normal, since the Finance Ministry had formed an investigation committee and prepared the report because of the special nature of the incident," chief information commissioner at the commission Binay Kumar Kasajoo said.

KATHMANDU, May 19: Upholding a recent decision of the National Information Commission (NIC), the Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday ruled that every student who wishes to see his or her exam answer sheets has the right to do so.

The apex court has ordered Tribhuwan University to show students their answer sheets if they so demand, but it has also set some conditions.

The division bench of SC Justices Balaram KC and Abadesh Kumar Yadav said that showing students their answer sheets won't be troublesome for TU as claimed by the latter.

Responding to a writ petition filed by TU Registrar Bhim Raj Adhikary on behalf of TU, the bench issued a verdict in favor of disgruntled students who had earlier filed an application at NIC demanding that they should have access to their answer sheets.

The apex court has, however, set five conditions for showing students the answer sheets.

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) today directed Tribhuvan University to ensure students’ right to access their answer sheets.

A division bench of Justices Bala Ram KC and Abadhesh Kumar Yadav issued the final verdict directing country’s oldest university to comply with five-year-old Right to Information Act, 2007, to satisfy the students.

“Provide certified copies of answer sheets to students, as they have the right to get information as per Article 27 of the interim constitution and Section 3 (3) (E) of Right to Information Act 2007,” stated the bench that upheld the two-year-old decision of National Information Commission to allow students to look into their answer sheets.
